I didn’t grow up with golf nor did our high school have a golf club. I’m as far from knowing about golf as a lost ball can be in the sand trap. But that’s going to change!

“Come out and have fun and enjoy yourself,” said Marcia Bloodworth at the Wallace Adams Golf Course Pro Shop when I called to ask about golf options. “You’ll fall in love with the game and start keeping score.”

To make the weekend even more thrilling, my friends and I could charter a flight to Telfair-Wheeler Airport (MQW) and staff from the lodge can pick us up and deliver us just down the road to Little Ocmulgee State Park Lodge to stay overnight in the lodge. I imagine myself on the 18-hole championship course and a warm feeling of being outdoors, with friends, comes over me. The Wallace Adams course is often described as friendly. While most players opt for getting around the course in a cart, walking is permitted year-round.

As we come into early summer, it’s possible that walk-ins may have to wait or come back as the course begins to get busy.

“Half of the players come every year and locals come every week,” said Bloodworth. “They’re coming with a group of buddies and having a good time, drinking some beer and doing all the fun golf stuff.”

The full-service Pro Shop offers golf accessories including club rentals, beautiful shirts, commemorative caps and balls, along with a snack and beverage bar.
