Wedding in the White Sand Hills

We’ll always remember our incredible South Georgia wedding at Little Ocmulgee State Park & Lodge.

When you arrive at Little Ocmulgee State Park & Lodge, you may feel transported by the calm breezes through the forest canopies and the gentle rolling hills underfoot.

The country club style setting of the Lodge and the tranquility of this 1,360-acre Georgia State Park on the Little Ocmulgee River is why we chose to have our wedding here. Ours was a destination wedding with affordability top of mind.

Everything we needed was right in the park! Our guest list could have been bigger, as Little Ocmulgee State Park & Lodge can accommodate up to 200 people at The Woods and Irons Hall, an indoor reception area. We exchanged vows at the more rustic Family Group Shelter which can be set up with tables and chairs for up to 100 people.

Our wedding party was closer to 30 family and close friends, who chose to spend the weekend at the park with us to enjoy golf, the splash pad for little kids, private guest pool, and lake activities for summer swimming, fishing on the pier, and boating off Thaxton Beach. Just be sure to bring your own watercrafts if wanting to spend time out in the lake.

The professionals on staff who helped us plan and present the wedding’s elements are stellar. They exemplify Southern hospitality at its finest. The lodge kitchen could accommodate dietary needs, and a staff member helped my sister decorate the shelter with Georgia-grown floral displays we brought.

From the colors of the linens to the sprinkled petals near our altar, all the simple and elegant touches were made. The affordable pricing structures for different wedding packages exemplifies that Little Ocmulgee State Park & Lodge is as an exceptional wedding venue in Georgia.

Full catering from the Lodge was available for our guests attending the Friday rehearsal dinner at The Woods and Irons Hall, while a local caterer provided food and beverages for our reception at the Family Group Shelter on Saturday afternoon.

One of the reasons my then-fiancé and I chose Little Ocmulgee State Park & Lodge is because there are 10 newly built and secluded lakeside cabins at the park. For our guests, this was ideal! The cabins  have 2 bedrooms, living rooms with cable TV, space for both indoor and outdoor dining, full kitchens with cookware, flatware, and dinnerware, screened in patios and a outdoor firepit and grill. Bath linens are provided. Book a cabin this summer.

As we were all leaving on Sunday and saying our goodbyes by the river, a family of ducks waddled over. It was like they were wishing us farewell. And with their creamy white plumage, it was a subtle reminder of my wedding colors and flowers and the guests that dabbled in the water with us during the weekend.

For summer reservations: Choose from among 60 Lodge guest rooms, 10 cottages (all new), and a campground with 54 sites for tent and R/V camping. There’s more to do and see!

We learned from area golfers that Little Ocmulgee State Park & Lodge is no secret. That’s a good thing, as more people need to learn about and experience this gem of a Georgia park.
